BROWNSTONES TO RED DIRT

Brownstones To Red Dirt

Brownstones to Red Dirt was the first feature length documentary that I was a part of.  My friends Dave, Chad and I formed Copper Pot Pictures to make the film and I was the Associate Producer.  Copper Pot was an amazing journey and learning experience.

Along the way, we made lifelong friends in Sierra Leone and in the US and we were able to tell the story of these classic pen pals, who learned everything about their new friends through old school pen and paper.  The film did great on the festival circuit and was picked up by Passion River.  Passion River is a leader in film distribution for the education and library market and has done an exceptional job getting the film into schools.  We collaborated with the San Francisco Film Society to create a complete study guide that goes along with the film.  If you are an educator interested in getting the film into your middle school or high school curriculum, please contact me.  Brownstones also enjoyed a nationwide broadcast release on the Africa Channel and is now available on DVD or digital download.

We the partnered with US based charity, Schools for Salone, and used the proceeds from the movie to build a new school for the orphans in Sierra Leone.  We've been back to visit and while the kids are growing up, the school continues to serve the community and foster the youth of the village.
